New 3DR Studio commercial for Buy Any Part

We're excited to finally be able to unveil our latest project - A CG Animated commercial for online spare parts retailer Buy Any Part made here in sunny Manchester!

We were approached to create an animated spot to highlight the convenience to their customers in finding the right part at the right price with speedy delivery.

We got busy designing characters and coming up with a story that would get people smiling (and clicking!) Buy Any Part were dream clients and, thanks to a huge effort on all sides, we managed to get the job done on a pretty tight schedule.

Remembering to forget to remember

At what point do we 'learn' to draw? Maybe we should ask at what point do we begin to worry about what we draw?

I leave sketchbooks lying around all over the place so that, no matter where I am in the house I can always grab one and get an idea down quickly (provided I can find a pen... where do all the pens go?!).

Anyway, I often find characters in the books that I don't remember drawing - little presents from my 8 year old son. I'm always struck by how uninhibited they are. There's no concern for perspective or anatomy, it's just a train of thought.

Sometimes I can't resist doing a 'polished' version of his creations in the hope of capturing that spark of life. At some point I realise that I'm doing that thing I've learned - 'Design' - analysing and applying rules which gets in the way of pure expression.

It's tricky but sometimes it's good to remember to forget what we think we know.
